The Importance of Color in Interior Design

Color Color Color

Mixing colors can be challenging. Take coral and gray for example. At first thought, sounds almost “maybe not” kind of combination.

When we think of combining colors, we think of being on the same side of the color wheel, and if not on the same side, then very close together. That is especially true when we think of our Interiors. We want to feel relaxed and at peace in our spaces. Putting coral and gray next to each other seems as it may be the opposite of “peace”. We know that warm colors tend to increase our pulse and may increase our blood pressure, whereas cool colors do the exact opposite.

Gray is an achromatic color, meaning literally that it’s a color without “color”. Neutrals can be cool (blue and green undertones) and warm (brown, yellow, red undertones). Coral is a warm, passionate, happy color. Too much of it may make you anxious. But in moderate portions, coral becomes a lovely addition, a perfect focal point, a happy destination for your eye.

If we were to choose to add to our neutral (gray is my favorite) interior spaces that splash of coral, whether it’s a wall, or throw pillows on your gray sofa, or a throw on your favorite satee, all of a sudden the “wow” factor becomes visible, enjoyable, fun, and desirable.
